Our BRAIN has amazed and puzzled people throughout the ages.. Some scientists have devoted their entire lives to learning how the BRAIN works.. It is no wonder that people enjoy learning facts about this incredible organ in the human body.. Starting from within the womb,, fetal BRAIN development begins the amazing journey that leads to a well-developed BRAIN at birth that continues to grow for 18 more years.. Some amazing & interesting facts about the BRAIN are:

Neurons in our BRAIN develop @ of 2,,50,,000 (approx) Neurons per minute during pregnancy..

At birth,, our BRAIN was almost the same size as an adult BRAIN & contained most of the BRAIN cells for whole life.. Our BRAIN continues to make new neurons throughout our life as per the speed of the activity done by our BRAIN..

A newborn baby’s BRAIN grows about three times its size in the first year..

Our BRAIN stopped growing at age 18..

The cerebral cortex grows thicker & thicker as we learn to use it..

The capacity for such emotions as joy,, happiness,, fear,, and shyness are already developed at birth..

In mother womb the first sense which develop,, is the sense of touch..

Our BRAIN has amazed and puzzled people throughout the ages.. Some scientists have devoted their entire lives to learning how the BRAIN works.. It is no wonder that people enjoy learning facts about this incredible organ in the human body.. Some amazing & interesting facts about the BRAIN are:

The weight of the human BRAIN is about 3 lbs..

The cerebrum is the largest part of the BRAIN and makes up 85% of the BRAIN’s weight..

Our skin weighs twice as much as your BRAIN..

The BRAIN’s gray matter is made up of neurons,, which gather and transmit signals.. The white matter is made up of dendrites and axons,, which create the network by which neurons send their signals.. Our BRAIN is 60% white matter and 40% gray matter..

The BRAIN is made up of about 75% water..

Our BRAIN consists of about 100 billion neurons..

There are anywhere from 1,,000 to 10,,000 synapses for each Neuron..

There are no pain receptors in the BRAIN,, So the BRAIN can feel no pain..

While an elephant’s BRAIN is physically larger than a human BRAIN,, the human BRAIN is 2% of total body weight,, meaning humans have the largest BRAIN to body size..

There are approximately 1 Lac miles of blood vessels in the BRAIN..

The human BRAIN is the fattest organ in the body and consists around 60% fat at least..

Some interesting facts about our BRAIN:

è Our BRAIN is like a powerful computer that stores our memory and controls how we as humans think and react.. It has evolved over time and features some incredibly intricate parts that scientists still struggle to understand

è Our BRAIN is the center of the human nervous system,, controlling our thoughts,, movements,, memories and decisions..

è Our BRAIN contains billions of nerve cells that send and receive information around the body..

è Our BRAIN is over three times as big as the BRAIN of other mammals that are of similar body size..

è Our BRAIN has two halves.. Each side of the BRAIN interacts largely with just one half of the body,, but for reasons that are not yet fully understood,, the interaction is with opposite sides,, the right side of the BRAIN interacts with the left side of the body,, and vice versa..

è Our BRAIN is protected by the skull,, a protective casing made up of 22 bones that are joined together..

è Our BRAIN is suspended in Cerebral spinal fluid,, effectively floating in liquid that acts as both a cushion to physical impact and a barrier to infections..

Our BRAIN is much like a super computer.. For example,, the neurons can compared with a microchip,, specialized parts can be compared with other system components like graphics card.. The basic fundamental difference between BRAIN and computers is that computers operate by performing on an input program,, while there is no predefined program appears our BRAIN.. The only similarity would only be a logical process..

Our BRAIN is massively parallel & interwoven,, whereas programming of this kind is almost impossible for computer.. Our BRAIN is also mediated by chemicals processes,, some percentage of these processes is only understood at a basic level and others of which may not yet have been discovered.. Most significantly,, our BRAIN appears hard-wired with certain abilities,, like ability to learn different languages,, interact with experience and un-chosen emotions & so on.. But a computer needs software to perform its functions..

Our BRAIN has amazing capabilities.. Here are examples of some amazing people & their BRAINS..

Daniel Tammet is an autistic savant who can perform astounding mathematical computations,, knows seven languages,, and is developing a language of his own..
Famous scientist Albert Einstein’s BRAIN was similar in size to other human BRAINS except in the region that is responsible for math and spatial perception,, where his BRAIN was 35% larger than average..
London taxi drivers are famous for knowing all the London streets.. They have larger hippocampus,, especially the drivers who have been on the job longest..
BRAIN of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was studied after his death and found to have been abnormally large and to have contained numerous neurons in a particular region..
In The University of York in Northern England,, a BRAIN thought to be 2000 yrs old was unearthed..
World Champion memorizer Ben Pridmore,, memorized 96 historical events in 5 minutes and memorized a single,, shuffled deck of cards in 26..28 seconds..
Henry Molaison underwent surgery of his BRAIN in 1953 and could not form new memories afterward.. He became the most studied patient by those who research the BRAIN..

The weight of an adult’s BRAIN normally between 1 & 1..5 kg and average volume is 1..6 ltr.. The BRAIN of a mature human consumes approx.. 25% of the energy used by their body,, while the developing BRAIN consumes approx.. 60%.. This heavy energy generates large quantity of power,, which must be continuously removed to prevent damage..

The BRAIN is easily damaged by compression,, so the fluid surrounding the central nervous system must be maintained at constant pressure.. Humans are estimated to produce about 500 ml or more of cerebrospinal fluid each day,, with only about 15 percent of the body's estimated 150 ml of fluid at any given time located in the ventricles of the BRAIN..

At birth,, the human skull is rather soft,, and it deforms somewhat during its passage through the birth canal then recovers its shape.. This allows it to expand to make room for the BRAIN,, which continues to grow..

Some interesting & weird facts about our BRAIN::

è Our BRAIN is divided into two identical sides.. The Left BRAIN is involved with more rational aspects such as logical thinking and the Right BRAIN is more emotionally and visually orientated..

è High altitude conditions make the BRAIN to see weird visions due to the reduced supply of oxygen..

è Our BRAIN is the fattest organ in our body it contains more than 60% fat..

è Our BRAIN contains no pain receptors,, therefore it cannot feel pain.. This is the reason why BRAIN surgery is able to be performed on the patient while they are still awake..

è We do not have the largest BRAIN of any mammal,, but we do have the largest frontal lobe..

è There are more than 100,,000 chemical reactions occurring within the BRAIN every second..

è When we have headaches,, it's not our brain that's hurting us.. Our BRAIN has no pain receptors itself.. It simply emulates the pain being felt in other parts of the body with its mirror neurons..

è Information travels to and is processed by the BRAIN at speeds up to 268 mph..

è We have more BRAIN Cells at the age of two than at any other time of our life.. After that our BRAIN kills off the cells which deems unnecessary for the future..

Some interesting & weird facts about our BRAIN::

è When our eyes receive images,, they are actually upside-down? Our BRAIN automatically corrects them,, so that we see them the right side-up!

è Despite the common myth,, the weight and size of a BRAIN has nothing to do with intellectual ability.. Albert Einstein’s BRAIN actually weighed less than the average weight of a human BRAIN..

è Although studies have shown that the male BRAIN is on average up to 10% larger than a female's BRAIN,, it has also been proven that female's BRAIN have more nerve cells and connectors,, therefore working more efficiently than men's..

è The reason why memories that are triggered by scent seem more intense and easier to recall,, is because our sense of smell has a deeper emotional connection with our BRAIN..

è The blood vessels in our BRAIN equal a total distance of 100,,000 kilometers when stretched out..

è Humans have approximately 70,,000 thoughts each day! Looks like we really are thinking too much..

è We might think that laughing at a joke is a simple enough action,, yet it requires activity in 5 different areas of our BRAIN..

è Every time we remember a memory or have a new thought,, our BRAIN creates a new connection in itself!

è While we awake,, our BRAIN generates enough energy to power a light bulb? We think that brings a whole new meaning to the term "light bulb moment"! Hence that old cartoon stereotype of a light bulb turning on whenever someone gets an idea..

è The left side of our BRAIN actually controls the right side of our body,, and the right side of our BRAIN controls the left side of our body.. Strange,, indeed!

Our BRAIN controls the Central Nervous System,, in co-ordination with cranial nerves & spinal cord and regulates virtually all human activity.. Involuntary actions,, such as heart beat,, respiration & digestion are unconsciously governed by the brain,, through our nervous system.. Complex activities like reasoning & thoughts,, is consciously controlled..

Our BRAIN is divided into three parts: The FOREBRAIN,, The MIDBRAIN & The HINDBRAIN.. The forebrain includes the several lobes of the Cerebral Cortex that control higher functions,, while the mid- and hindbrain are more involved with unconscious,, autonomic functions.. During encephalization,, human brain mass increased beyond that of other species relative to body mass.. This process was especially pronounced in the neocortex (a section of the brain that involved with linguistic & consciousness)..

Basic systems that alert humans to stimuli,, sense events in the environment,, and maintain homeostasis are similar to those of basic vertebrates.. Human consciousness is founded upon the extended capacity of the modern neocortex,, as well as the greatly developed structures of the BRAIN STEM..

The second largest part of our BRAIN is the Cerebellum,, which lies beneath the back of the Cerebrum.. The Cerebellum is responsible for coordinating muscle movement and controlling our balance.. Consisting of both grey and white matter,, the Cerebellum transmits information to the spinal cord and other parts of the brain..

There are the two major sections are the thalamus & hypothalamus.. The thalamus acts as a relay station for incoming nerve impulses from around the body that are then forwarded to the appropriate brain region for processing.. The hypothalamus controls hormone secretions from the nearby pituitary gland.. These hormones govern growth and instinctual behaviour such as eating,, drinking,, anger,, and reproduction..

The BRAIN STEM,, controls reflexes and crucial,, basic life functions such as heart rate,, breathing,, and blood pressure.. It also regulates when you feel sleepy or awake..

Our BRAIN is very sensitive and delicate,, and so requires maximum protection.. This is provided by the surrounding skull and three tough membranes.. The spaces between these membranes are filled with fluid that cushions the brain and keeps it from being damaged by contact with the inside of the skull..
